One client's comment:

Kim - Thank You! You helped us achieve exactly the kind of balance and tone we wanted in the opening keynote with your great stories and songs. Your two workshops were a hit and really gave the participants a lot to talk about, as well as put to use right away. Many people told me afterward that you really gave them new pause to be more hopeful and positive about both themselves, and how they work with others. I also understand you had two inquiries right after the conference from attendees who encouraged their employer to bring you in and share the program with the people they work with - that's a great indicator of the impact and value of your message. Thanks for being such a helpful asset to our members - we'll be in touch again I'm sure. - Tom Clancey-Burns, Community Action Partnership of Oregon

This page with the links above is for you - the meeting planner, to help answer many of the questions you probably have. Let's start with my Philosophy about how I strive to work with meeting planners and their organizations:

1. It's about finding a speaker who's message and style are a good "fit" for YOUR goals.
When a meeting planner calls, first I need to listen closely to the purpose of the event and who will be there, as well as their hopes, goals and desired outcomes. Then I'm better able to suggest what I can do to help achieve those goals, with a focus on a good fit. Believe me -- if my message and style are NOT a good fit I don't want to be in front of the audience any more than the meeting planner does!
Does my Core message (below) fit what you need?

My expertise is helping people create more harmony in their own life and in their relationships with others. I do this by offering quality keynotes and workshops that help people improve their Attitudes and the Choices they make regarding their Communication & Relationships Skills. I present these strategies and skills with these three outcomes in mind:
  1. Inspire Hope - so people want to get better at communicting and relating to others ,
  2. Improve Skills to cope - in times of change, challenge and conflict, and
  3. Integrate - the content into a program that most helps your members in one of the general areas of (you help suggest the best focus) - Personal Continuous Improvement, Teamwork, Leadership, or Customer Service.
Then there's the "Style" consideration:
I'm known as "the speaker who sings" because I use live, original Music in every presentation, and usually write at least one song for each client, based on their theme or the work people do. It's a great teaching tool because it really keeps people engaged, helps people remember key points, and creates an upbeat learning environment. I also use Stories because it helps people remember the main points better, and a good story helps me weave the main points into their work context to show purpose, skills to use, and how to apply them. I strive for a balance of presenting information with Interaction - through small and large group activities, because this is important for adult learners. And finally, I add a little Humor now and then because like the music and stories, this helps people relax and have fun together in a learning environment.
So if we determine my message and style would be a good fit for what you're planning, then we can keep discussing the details like focus, theme, timeframes, fee, etc.

2. It's about giving you the best value for your investment.
When a group invites me to work with them at a multi-day event, my goal is to spend up to two (2) full days. I've found that when I don't rush off after my presentation, I'm better able to create rapport and trust with attendees, and by the 2nd day I'm having lots of conversations with people about how to apply the message to their situations. Most of my clients appreciate this approach, as it increases the impact and value to many of their members.
And while I'm there, I'm happy to share more than just one program - all inclusive. Some speakers charge extra if they do more than a keynote or workshop. I don't - I love what I do and want to do whatever I can to help your event succeed and even exceed your goals. So it's all included in the fee we agree to - it's my "value-added" approach, so you don't have to spend more money to bring in another speaker to do another topic for you while I'm already there. When you call, ask about the "Conference Package" - it includes:

  • A keynote to help you open (or close) your conference,
  • Up to two (2) concurrent workshops,
  • I'll share my music or emcee skills at a special event (i.e., awards ceremony, silent auction, etc.)
  • All for up to two (2) full days!

3. It's about being affordable to you and fair to my business.
I know that after finding a good "fit" - you also have concerns about "fee." I want to assure you that one key reason I'm still in business since 1994 is because in addition to sharing an important message and doing so effectively, I'm also fair and affordable to my many non-profit clients. Because most of the groups I specialize in working with are schools and other not-for-profit organizations and associations with smaller budgets, I've used a "Fee Range" system for many years now. This helps me keep my services affordable and available to non-profit groups who can't afford many of the speakers on the market.
So if we mutually agree my services would be a good fit, I'll quote you a fee and estimate travel expenses. Then, if you can't afford that fee, and your group qualifies, I'll listen to what's the best you can do towards that fee so that it's affordable to your budget and fair to my business, and we'll see what we can work out and agree to. I don't know how to be more fair and flexible than that.

4. A further promise to you: Your Satisfaction is Guaranteed
My promise to you, the meeting planner, is that I will aspire to the highest ethical and professional standards for speakers in all my dealings with you and your organization. Further, upon my completion of all services agreed to, if you are not at least satisfied with the work I did for you, and will share examples of where I fell short of your expectations so that I can learn from the shortcoming, then you don't owe me my fee. Only out of pocket expenses to get there will be requested. I'm both confident and comfortable with this promise, as I haven't had this happen yet with hundreds of clients over 17 years. More important -- it's what I would expect if I were hiring a speaker. So I don't want you to worry about this important investment either - you need to feel confident in your speaker so you can focus on other important details and arrangements ...
